Vertigo’s Sandman Is Coming To Netflix
By Alleef Ashaari|July 2, 2019|0 Comment
There are several comic books that many fans previously considered almost unfilmable. The list includes iconic properties like Alan Moore’s Watchmen, the full scale of many of DC Comics’ Crises and Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. It seems that no one told Netflix that, because they have officially ordered a TV series for the legendary Vertigo franchise.
Netflix describes the Sandman TV series as::
“A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven,
The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King,
as he mends the cosmic–and human–mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”
Sandman creator Neil Gaiman will act as an executive producer for the Netflix series, joined by the likes of Allan Heinberg and David S. Goyer. Not much is known about the Sandman Netflix series as of yet, but it is rumored to be the most expensive TV series in DC Comics adaptation history.
For those unfamiliar with the source material, the Sandman comics told the tale of Morpheus, AKA Dream, a powerful, near-immortal being who presided over the realm of Dreams as he attempted to correct mistakes he’d made over the course of his existence. Along the way, he meets other immortal beings and interesting figures.
This is good news for fans of Sandman and the Vertigo imprint as a whole. After DC Comics announced that it will be shutting down Vertigo, many were alarmed that it would mean the death of popular Vertigo properties like Sandman.
DC Comics has since reassured that properties under the Vertigo imprint will continue to live on, despite under the new adult-oriented DC Black Label. Stay tuned on Kakuchopurei for more details on the Netflix Sandman TV series in the future.
In the meantime, head on over here to check out our list of the top ten best comics from the Vertigo imprint as a way of celebrating decades-worth of brilliant mature content.
