Why do people play Yakuza games? Is it for the riveting story centered around the many twists and turns of Japanese organised crime? Is it for the brutal combat? Or is it for the dozens of minigames?
If even at least one of those things pique your interest, then you should try Yakuza 6. You’ll enjoy that one aspect you went for and everything else comes as a bonus. There’s tons of Yakuza series recap videos on YouTube nowadays so newcomers shouldn’t be afraid of feeling left out.
I often recommend Yakuza 6 for the same reason I recommend The Witcher 3. It’s a game that has so many things to do and see that you won’t ever regret buying it. However, there is a ton of cutscenes and dialogue in this game so if you’re not so keen on that, I think it’s better to skip this one.
If you’re looking for a game with a fun hand-to-hand combat system, tons of minigames, and don’t mind an exposition-heavy story, this is a game made for you.
