Capcom Plans To Bring Back Dormant IPs

Capcom’s annual financial report for 2019 is out and it’s 104 pages of facts and figures that I’ll need more time to peruse. For now, I’ll have to thank the folks at PCGamesN for pointing out that the report contains statements alluding that Capcom wants to look back and bring forward some of their intellectual properties which hasn’t seen the light of a day in a long time.
One of Capcom’s initiatives to bolster consumer business growth is to “awaken dormant intellectual properties” and this is further explained on page 80 of the report. To save you the time of finding the statement yourself, let me help you out:
“We will revive dormant intellectual properties for which we have not recently released new titles by increasing the number of our developers.”
That last part suggests that Capcom might be planning to expand their pool of talents which is a move that won’t hurt them thanks to the overwhelming success of recent releases such as Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Devil May Cry V. When added up, the three games have sold more than 10 million units and the base of version of Monster Hunter World forms the biggest slice of the pie with 4.5 million units sold.
As a big fan of the Onimusha series, I’m sincerely hoping that Capcom will consider dishing out a new Onimusha game. Yes yes, I know that they recently released that Onimusha: Warlords HD Remaster but I want something new. What about Dino Crisis or maybe even a new Okami?! A man can dream.
