Clowns Of A Feather Flock Together In Birds Of Prey Trailer

Warner Bros has finally released the first official trailer for Birds Of Prey, and it doesn’t look too good. Giving off a vibe of a cross between the neon brightness of Batman Forever and the loony goofiness of Suicide Squad, the trailer mostly focuses on Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.

The Birds Of Prey trailer confirms that Harley Quinn has broken up with the Joker (probably a way to try and make everyone forget about Jared Leto’s horrible performance as the Clown Prince Of Crime) and that she’s looking for other “dames” like her who are looking for “emancipation”.

These others include Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli / Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, none of whom look remotely similar to their comic book counterparts. We also see Chris Messina as Batman villain Victor Zsasz, and Ewan McGregor as a more flamboyant and stylish version of the Roman Sionis / Black Mask.

The problem with this trailer (and all the marketing/promotion material so far) is that they seemingly convey Birds Of Prey movie to be a solo Harley Quinn vehicle of sorts. The absence of Barbara Gordon AKA Batgirl (AKA the co-founder of the team in the comics) is further proof that the filmmakers were never interested in making a faithful Birds Of Prey movie in the first place.

It all looks like just more of an excuse to push Harley Quinn into the spotlight, as she was one of the few (only?) redeemable qualities of 2016’s Suicide Squad. Birds Of Prey releases on 7 February 2020.

In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
