Happy 25th Anniversary, PlayStation! The Best PS1 Games Of All Time
Silent Hill

No other game franchise was as scary as Konami’s Silent Hill franchise, with the first game exclusively launching for the PS1 back in 1999. Known for its creepy foggy atmosphere (which as ironically due to the limitations of the console) and grotesque nightmarish monster designs, the game was made even scarier considering how the protagonists are always average joes and a heavier emphasis on psychological scares.
The original Silent Hill defined survival horror games for the next few generations, up until its last major instalment on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. It’s a shame that with the current sorry state of Konami, we haven’t even seen what a modern current-gen title would be like. Hideo Kojima’s cancelled Silent Hills would have been exactly that, as evident from the incredible but short-lived P.T. demo.
