Resident Evil 2 was originally released for the PS1 in 1998 and became the best-selling game for the franchise on a single platform. It improved on the survival horror elements of its predecessor and introduced the innovative Zapping System, where players could replay scenarios with different characters, each with its own unique challenges.

Many people still swear of Resident Evil 2 as the best game in the franchise, or more specifically the best survival horror game in the franchise before it starting focusing more on action, beginning with Resident Evil 4.
