The Top 50 NPCs In Video Games History

#31 Olgierd von Everec – The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone

There are tons of characters with tragic stories in the world of The Witcher but none of them is as poignant as Olgierd von Everec’s. A man cursed with immortality for… Well, it’s such a good story that I’d prefer it if you discover it yourself.

#32 Ocelot – Metal Gear Solid series

Just like how Otacon is everyone’s favourite otaku in MGS, Ocelot is everyone’s favourite triple-crossing secret agent with an identity crisis.

He’s the only character to consistently appear in all the main MGS games and each of his appearances is more entertaining than the last. Well, maybe except in MGS V.

#33 Cheeseburger – Far Cry 5

One of the best new mechanics in Far Cry 5 is the NPC companion mechanic, which includes the likes of not only people, but animals too. One of those animals is a bear named Cheeseburger.

He is an adorable bear who’ll accompany players on their adventure through Montana, mauling and charging at enemies when you tell him to. Who doesn’t want a freaking bear as a companion?

#34. The Priest – Dragon Quest XI: Echoes Of An Elusive Age

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes Of An Elusive Age is one of the best JRPGs ever made, and it features an eclectic cast of companions. However, none of them would survive the ever-grindey journey without the help of the priest in the church, who helps save your progress, cures your ailments, and resurrects you if your party dies midway through the journey.

#35. EDI- Mass Effect Series

Your ship AI that takes you around the galaxy to rid the galaxy of bad things and world-ending threats. Who on earth is going to take the squad led by the best of humanity through the mass relays around without this lusciously-voiced AI to sort you out? Also, her relationship with ship pilot Joker is pretty genuine, even if she’s anything but human.

#36 Mimir – God Of War (2018)

Who knew that a talking head would be so welcome? Mimir would never shut up when you’re on the boat with Kratos and Atreus, but we love his stories and anecdotes, most of which enrich the games’ already-extensive mythological lore.

We can’t imagine playing through the next God Of War game without being accompanied by Mimir.

#37 Phillip Strenger/The Bloody Baron – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

In The Witcher 3, Geralt of Rivia meets hundreds of fascinating NPCs, but this NPC is iconic for having one of the best sidequests in all of gaming attached to his big body.

Phillip Strenger, or The Bloody Baron, starts off as an unpleasant and morally-dubious character, but as you help him and learn about him, it turns out that he’s only trying to what’s best for his people, while also nursing his fatherly pain of having lost his child.

#38. Martin Callahan – The Outer Worlds

One of the most noticeable characters in The Outer Worlds, among all the estranged and weird ones, is the Spacer’s Choice advocate Martin Callahan. Conversing with him is to experience escalating denial and acceptance of one’s terrible life choice with a corporation that doesn’t give two knocks about you.

#39. Pork Bun Street Vendor – Sleeping Dogs

You know, that guy who always shouts, ‘You look like a man who could use a pork bun’ every time you run past him.

God bless that man.

#40 Hank – Detroit: Become Human

The most popular protagonist in Detroit Become Human is Connor, and though he is himself a pretty great character, it’s his buddy-cop dynamic with seasoned grizzled detective Hank that is the highlight of the game.

Their relationship can either grow better or worst according to the player’s choices, but trust us, you want Hank to be on your side.
