Indonesian Horror Game DreadOut 2 Out Now, Steam Reviews Mixed

The first DreadOut wasn’t a critical darling, but the Indonesian horror game managed to earn itself a ‘Mostly Positive’ user rating on Steam. DreadOut 2, which released just a few days ago, boasts a larger scope than its predecessor, but its Steam rating is inferior.

The game currently has a Mixed user rating on Steam. A good number of the negative reviews criticize the game’s bugginess, with some also noting that there were game-breaking bugs. A few reviews took issue with the new open-world, which they found to be a disappointment.

It’s a shame because the DreadOut 2‘s open-world environment looks pretty cool. Andreas Betsche, a writer at Virtual SEA, tweeted screenshots of the game’s Indonesian town. It’s undeniably indie, but the detail is still impressive.

Steam describes the game as such:

“A unique take on third-person action-adventure survival horror with Indonesian supernatural in veins.

Mixed gameplay of city exploring, “DreadOut” style smartphone ghost hunting and new action-packed combat within DreadOut supernatural realm.

Even though it is a Horror game in veins, but with the touch of silly high school problems, satiric social commentaries, and yet touchy memorable moments, DreadOut 2 will become a fresh take on the survival horror genre.”

DreadOut 2 isn’t the only Indonesian horror game of 2020. Psychological horror title Pulang: Insanity, which centres on the “Pesugihan” ritual and claims to be based on a real story, is releasing on 13 March 2020.

According to the Steam description, the “Pesugihan” ritual allows one “to earn wealth instantly without doing any work, yet it needs a fairly big amount of sacrifice in [the] form of a human’s soul every 3 months on the day of 21st”.
