Cygames recently announced that it will no longer be sponsoring Cygames Beast due to conflict of interest; they are after all developing the new fighting game Granblue Fantasy: Versus. Because of this, the following players will be let go:

• Daigo Umehara, legendary Street Fighter player
• PR Balrog
• Infexious
• Fuudo, who recently got married to a gravure idol and streamed his wedding
• Gamerbee, who also happens to be a fan of Twinkle Star Sprites

Funny thing is, Daigo was aware of this at the start of January of this year. Here’s what he had to say about their fighting game future (via FGC Translated)

“But if they stop sponsoring us, some of the teammates won’t be able to go to CPT tournaments. Maybe I can still make it on my own. But the other guys…”

[Regarding Infexious’ amazing performance], if Infexious becomes unable to go to Capcom Pro Tour tournaments. That’s just such a waste. That would be a huge waste of his talent.”

This also means good news for many sponsors who want to own a team of top players under the “Beast” suffix. Daigo said that he will do something about this.

“I will work on this issue. But I want the team to continue going forward. So, don’t worry about it. Don’t worry about Infexious. The person who will be working on this is Shino san (manager).”
