Dota 2 Singapore Major Cancelled, Mobile Legends Invitational Indonesia Postponed

Yet more video game events have been affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and this time they’re both by organizers ONE Esports; the upcoming Dota 2 Singapore Major and the Mobile Legends Invitational in Indonesia. The news was announced via their official website earlier today.

The Dota 2 Singapore Major has been cancelled. It was originally scheduled to take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 20 to 28 June 2020. This decision came to be because the Singapore government has announced that gatherings of more than 250 people have to be suspended until 30 June 2020.

Meanwhile, the Mobile Legends Invitational (MLI) was initially supposed to take place on 1 to 5 July 2020 in Jakarta, Indonesia, but has now been postponed. ONE Esports and Mobile Legends developer Moonton will announce new dates for the competition in the near future. The Indonesian government has suspended issuing event permits since March 2020.

However, the MLI Online Country Qualifiers that are currently taking place will continue as planned, the winners of whom will earn a spot to the Mobile Legends Invitational in Indonesia.

ONE Esports CEO Carlos Alimurung said:

“ONE Esports is committed to delivering top-notch experiences for Dota 2 and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

These changes were tough to make, but they were necessary.

We place great importance on the health and safety of our esports athletes, staff, and fans.”

Other game events that have also been cancelled, postponed, or turned into digital events due to COVID-19 include Paris Games Week 2020, E3 2020, Gamescom 2020, EVO 2020, QuakeCon 2020, and Taipei Game Show 2020.
