Ghost Of Tsushima Fans Help Raise Money To Repair Real-Life Temple

Ghost Of Tsushima fans have helped raise more than a whopping US$260,000 to rebuild a shrine on the real Japanese island. Yuichi Hirayama is a priest at the real-life Watatsumi Shrine on Tsushima Island and he launched a crowdfunding page in November 2020 to help rebuild a Torii gate that recently collapsed during a typhoon.
The crowdfunding effort ended on 10 January 2021 with 27,103,882 Japanese Yen (or roughly US$260,000) raised and over 2000 people contributing to the project.
Watatsumi Shrine is located in central Tsushima, dedicated to the deities Hikohohodemino Mikoto and Toyotamabime. Although it doesn’t appear in the Ghost Of Tsushima game, players can visit many landmarks from the real island, as detailed by a tourism collaboration site.
Repair work is expected to begin in April 2021 and complete by August 2021. The Shrine intends to engrave the names of those who have supported more than 10,000 yen (US$94) on a nearby stone monument.
Sucker Punch’s Ghost Of Tsushima is now one of the most successful PlayStation exclusives of all time, with more than five million copies sold since its launch in July 2020. You can check out our review of the game here.
