#11: Genshin Impact

As far as Breath of the Wild clones go, this F2P offering from Mihoyo isn’t half-bad.

In fact, it’s shaping up to be quite a long-term thrill ride. From its large map to its combat, there’s a lot that clicks with Genshin Impact. Control a party of four characters of different waifu/husbando stature, and then go through the motions of the game’s typical fantasy plot with your fairy companion Paimon.

Then just futz around and level up your characters, doing quests here and there while taking things slow as you wait for the eventual events and updates that’s part and parcel with a free online game. Even if it’s for a short time, you can feel the progress you’ve made to get your own team to a high level, or just buffing up your Adventurer Rank.

True, its F2P mechanics and gacha method of earning characters and leveling up will hit you like a brick wall right after the 15-hour mark. But for those early moments, you’ll be enamored that a game as expansive, as beautiful, and as playable like this somehow feels generous from the get-go. As long as you’re not hard-up on getting certain 5-star characters, you can enjoy Genshin Impact for what it is without burning through your entire wallet.
