Ninja Gaiden’s Tomonobu Itagaki Is Back In Games

Controversial video game director Tomonobu Itagaki, renowned for creating the Dead or Alive series, rebooting the Ninja Gaiden franchise, dissing Tekken at one point, and releasing the travesty called Devil’s Third, is back.

He has returned to game development with a newly-formed studio called Itagaki Games according to his Facebook page (via Video Game Chronicles). And yes, he did say that he is open to an acquisition from Microsoft if they want him.

“Haha, I would start again with questions that I made to [Xbox designer] Seamus [Blackley] two decades ago. Back then, I asked him, are you confident that you will beat PS2? He said yes. Xbox is called ‘Project Midway’ and I’ll gain the supremacy with it.

That’s why I trusted him and actually created Xbox-exclusive games for about 10 years. 20 years have passed since then, and I established my own company, Itagaki Games, which is not Tecmo, nor Valhalla.

I know Microsoft is still aggressive. If they reach out to me, it will be an honor for me.”

For those who do not know, Itagaki left Koei Tecmo in 2008, formed Valhalla Game Studios in 2010, released Devil’s Third in 2015 (the company’s sole game), and was mentoring & fostering juniors up until now. It’ll be interesting to see whether the developer will learn from his past mistakes.
