This Year’s BlizzCon Is Cancelled
Blizzard has announced that it will be cancelling BlizzCon this year. The offline one anyway.
The California-based offline event will not be held at Anaheim later this year due to COVID-19 and pandemic-related issues.
“Building an in-person BlizzCon is an epic and complex affair that takes many months of preparation—not just for us, but also for the many talented production partners, esports pros, hosts, entertainers, artists, and other collaborators we team up with locally and globally to put all of the pieces together.
The ongoing complexities and uncertainties of the pandemic have impacted our ability to properly move forward on many of these fronts, and ultimately we’re now past the point where we’d be able to develop the kind of event we’d want to create for you in November.”
Instead, the company is planning a global event for the early part of next year, as well as hosting online shows ala BlizzConline earlier this February. Blizzard will share more at a later time.
This also means that its flagship titles –Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV– will see more development time until a future BlizzCon rears its head next year. For more on the former title, read up on the game’s latest multiplayer changes.
