Gaming Forum ResetEra Sold For US$4.5 Million To Esports Network

Video game forum ResetEra, which was formed by ex-NeoGAF members and currently is a hotbed of rumours, news, and tea-spilling, was recently sold to a network of esports sites for US$4.5 million.

The group itself is called MOBA Network, and they actually put a price tag on a really busy and young gaming forum. MOBA Network CEO Björn Mannerqvist said that the purchase of ResetEra.com is one step to its acquisitions and community-building strategy.

“ResetEra.com is another step in our strategy to grow through acquisitions and create more relevant communities with attractive, growing target groups that many companies want to expose themselves to.”

According to MOBA Network, ResetEra has over 45 million forum posts and about 55,000 members. The site brought in about US$700,000 in revenue through ads last year. The sole owner of ResetEra, user Cerium, said that this acquisition will not shake up the forum in the slightest.

“The staff will retain total independence when it comes to moderation and the day-to-day management of the site. That independence will be held as absolutely sacred, in the same way that editorial independence is treated at journalistic publications.”

Cerium also said that the forum’s private data will not be misused.

“MOBA Network is not in the user data business and never will be. They’re not going to sell your data. Nothing is going to change about how your data is handled and protected.”
