Sega Announces Sin Chronicle, The Spiritual Successor To “Hit” RPG Chain Chronicle

Earlier last month, Sega teased a new JRPG in the works. Turns out that it’s the sequel to its hit mobile RPG Chain Chronicle.

Sin Chronicle is the next big mobile JRPG from Sega, and it’s made by the same team who created Chain Chronicle. The game is a turn-based RPG (with a real-time overworld exploration gameplay) where you control up to four party members.

Each character has BP points, and their attack commands and spells cost various amounts of BP. Your turn ends when your BP points are depleted, so you have to use it all up to pull off commands.

Sin Chronicle will also feature pivotal story bits where you have to make crucial story decisions; you cannot go back and change it once you’ve made it. The allies you make will affect the outcome of the story.

Basically you can choose your own ending and live with it; the game’s tagline is “Two choices of fate, and only one opportunity to choose. Your hands will shake, and your soul will tremble.” Also, each chapter of the game’s main campaign is roughly 10 hours long.

The game’s music is composed by Kevin Penkin, who is known for his work on Made in Abyss. Guest composers include Yoko Shimomura of Kingdom Hearts fame, Yuzo Koshiro of Streets of Rage/Actraiser fame, Yasunori Mitsuda, Masashi Hamauzu, and Kenji Ito of SaGa fame.

The game’s predecessor, Chain Chronicle, was published in English back in 2014 before it stopped operations in 2016, allegedly due to poor sales and marketing. Western critics have praised Chain Chronicle for its blend of real-time action RPG and tower defense-style gameplay as well as its storyline and character art. The game’s Japanese version is still ongoing since its release back in 2013.

Pre-registration for the game starts right now, at least for the Japanese version of the game (iOS and Android). The game will be out on 15th December; closed beta sessions will be starting soon this October in the meantime; you can check out the website for more information.
