Dawn Of The Monsters Is 2D Kaiju & Giant Robot Fighting Madness; Out Early 2022

There’s going to be another kaiju fisticuffs game that’s coming out alongside Gigabash, though this one’s a tad different genre-wise.

Publisher WayForward and developer 13AM Games announced a new upcoming 2D beat-em-up title called Dawn of the Monsters. It’s a co-op beat-em-up featuring mechas beating up kaijus and vice versa in a huge cityscape, with the destruction that entails such giant-sized endeavours.

“Players take control of powerful monsters in order to take on the evil Nephilim—a horde of creatures that are hellbent on destroying the planet. Liberate four major metropolitan areas, from Toronto to Tokyo, in this epic action game.

Featuring beautiful 2.5D graphics inspired by the works of Mike Mignola, bone-crunching combat with the depth of a fighter, RPG upgrades, and fully destructible environments. Couch cooperative play is bigger and badder than ever before.”

I like the sound of “the works of Mike Mignola”. The game features four playable monsters: Megadon, Ganira, Aegis Prime, and Tempest Galahad, with designs from Godzilla character creator Shiji Nishikawa and Godzilla comic book artist Matt Frank. The game features 35 missions, two-player co-op, and a customize-your-kaiju mode. Basically, it’s SNK’s King of the Monsters but for 2022.

Dawn of the Monsters will be out in early 2022 for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam). Check out the gameplay below (via IGN).
