Warner Bros. Plans To Make The Matrix NFTs

In more news involving big companies jumping onto fads and bandwagons, Warner Bros. is planning on entering the non-fungible token (NFT) space yet again via The Matrix.

The company will be releasing NFTs inspired by the Matrix franchise and the upcoming film The Matrix: Resurrections. According to The Hollywood Reporter, these NFTs are taking its inspiration from recent NFT avatar art projects like CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club.

The NFTs will be released in partnership with the social NFT platform Nifty’s; they will create 100,000 avatars and will sell them for US$50 apiece starting 30th November. These avatars will represent characters living in The Matrix. On 16th December, all buyers can choose to either keep their avatar in The Matrix (the Blue Pill option) or transform them into a resistance fighter (the Red Pill option). Here’s what Nifty’s CEO Jeff Marsilio said about the project:

We really think that theme, of digital identity, and choice, and owning that identity, resonates with the themes in The Matrix franchise. It was an opportunity to take what was already a grassroots movement with the NFT avatar, and take it further mainstream.”

Warner Bros. previously partnered with Nifty’s for Space Jam digital collectibles.
