Cowboy Bebop Live-Action Show Cancelled After One Season
See you, space cowboy. For real.
Netflix has cancelled the live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop after its premiere less than a month ago. According to Hollywood Reporter, the move happened less than three weeks after the show’s 19th November debut. The show has had a rough reception, garnering a 46 percent positive critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes as well as a 56 percent positive audience score.
The decision in-house was made by balancing the show’s viewership and cost. The show racked up almost 74 million viewing hours worldwide since it debuted, but it plummeted 59 percent for the week of 29th November.
The Cowboy Bebop live-action adaptation starred John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, and Daniella Pineda. We personally thought the casting was right and had a few decent moments here and there, but the overall reason it failed was because it mimicked the anime a bit too much and failed at capturing that same cool essence. Still, it deserved a second chance as some of it had potential to grow. Check out our review here.
