SEGA Is Making Big Budget Reboots Of Crazy Taxi And Jet Set Radio To Be Global Hits Like Fortnite

Sega may be on a roll if these latest rumours from Bloomberg reports are true.

The company that made Sonic plans on developing “big budget reboots” of two of its classic titles: Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. This is the company’s strategy of pursuing global hits like Epic Games’ Fortnite. The two titles will be out in two to three years, give or take, and would be the first entries in the “Super Game” initiative Sega announced mid last year.

This effort is to help create recurring revenue sources and build online communities around existing IPs; smells suspiciously like a live service model and a free-to-play game idea. But if this means a revitalization of two awesome titles, then hopefully the company and dev teams behind it won’t mess it up while keeping true to the game’s core design.

The new Crazy Taxi game has been in development for over a year, while the Jet Set Radio game is still early in its creation. Both games could still be cancelled according to Bloomberg sources.

For those not in the know, Crazy Taxi is an arcade racer where you pick up passengers as fast as you can for a high score. Jet Set Radio is a rollerskating action adventure title where you paint the town with graffiti while running from the law, while also doing skating and rollerblading tricks and stunts. These two titles are the pinnacle of Sega’s popularity during the late 90s and early 2000s, as they garnered lots of love from hardcore gamers all over. Plus, their soundtracks rocked the casbah.
