VCT 2022: Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen – FPX Get Revenge On Fnatic

FunPlus Phoenix have gotten their revenge over Fnatic, knocking them out as they begin their lower bracket run on their way to the grand final.

CHECK OUT OUR SCHEDULE STAGE 2 MASTERS SCHEDULE

Unfortunate for Fnatic as one of the favourites to win the tournament, after knocking their fellow Europeans into the lower bracket, they were unable to overcome them during their second meeting.

CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR

Map 1, Split was a nail-biting map going all the way to overtime, with Fnatic scraping the win 15–13. From the scoreline alone it’s hard to tell that FunPlus Phoenix were able to obtain a relatively comfortable lead going into the second half at 8–4. But it was then when Fnatic awoke, amounting to the same number of round wins as FPX in the first half, dragging the map into overtime. After the first two rounds going both ways, Fnatic were able to close out the series moving onto their map pick of Bind.

FNATIC SHUTDOWN

Although being Fnatic’s pick, FPX dominated both halves maintaining a comfortable lead over Fnatic for the entire map. The half ended with FPX up by two rounds and were able to keep that momentum going in the second half, sending the match to a decisive Map 3, Fracture.

NO FINAL FOR FNATIC

FunPlus Phoenix, dominated the deciding map’s first half in convincing fashion, concluding the half at 9–3. Fnatic seemed to regain momentum as they won the first two rounds. But that hope was short-lived after as FPX would close out the map by winning the next four rounds, ending the game at 13–5 and taking their revenge on Fnatic.

FPX can now finish no lower than third place at Masters Copenhagen, a fantastic result after failing to qualify for any international LAN in 2021 and travel restrictions prevented them from competing at Masters Reykjavik. They will go on to face OpTic Gaming in the lower bracket final where they’ll compete for a spot in the grand final. The match between FPX and OpTic is set to take place on 23 July at 11:00 PM (GMT+8) so don’t miss out
