Michelle Yeoh Is The First Malaysian To Win A Golden Globe Award

Michelle Yeoh has made history by becoming the first Malaysian to win a Golden Globe Award. Earlier today on 10 January 2023 at the 80th Golden Globe Awards, she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical in the movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022). At the time of writing, the Golden Globe awards is still ongoing.

She won in the category against her other fellow nominees, including Lesley Manville in Mrs Harris Goes to Paris (2022), Margot Robbie in Babylon (2022), Anya Taylor-Joy in The Menu (2022), and Emma Thompson in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (2022).

The Golden Globe Awards are accolades bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which originally started in January 1944 with the aim of recognizing excellence in both American and international film and television. It is now held in January annually.

In her acceptance speech, she said:

“I’m just gonna stand here and take this all in. 40 years. Not letting go of this. It’s been an amazing journey and an incredible fight to be here today. But I think it’s been worth it,” she said in her speech.

This is also for all the shoulders that I stood on, all who came before me who looks like me, and all who are going on this journey with me forward. Thank you for believing in us.”

We’re proud of our Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh. We hope that her achievement will inspire more Malaysians to rise above and beyond in the global stage. Malaysia Boleh!
