Shuhei Yoshida To Be Awarded BAFTA Fellowship Later This Month

The BAFTA (British Academy Film Awards) has announced Shuhei Yoshida will be awarded a BAFTA Fellowship at the upcoming BAFTA Game Awards on 30 March 2023.

According to BAFTA (via GamesIndustry.biz), Shuhei Yoshida is being recognised for his work “as a champion of independent developers”, as well as “through his personal social media presence and his corporate endeavours he has consistently nurtured the creativity and innovation of the indie games industry, and regularly champions indie games through podcasts, official PlayStation videos, and the wider games media.”

Yoshida is currently the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s independent (indie) developer initiative. He’s been part of the company for decades, but his biggest position and contribution was as president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios from 2008 to 2019, before being replaced by Hermen Hulst.

The 19th BAFTA Games Awards will take place on 30 March 2023 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, and live on Twitch. God of War Ragnarok alone picked up 14 nominations for this year’s event. Last year, Returnal was the biggest winner of the 2022 BAFTA Awards.
