NetEase Establishes New Game Studio Anchor Point Studios

A new game development studio called Anchor Point Studios has been established by NetEase, and it’s led by Paul Ehreth, the lead designer of Control. They’re based in Barcelona, Spain, with a secondary office in Seattle, USA, and will concentrate on making action-adventure games for both consoles and PCs.

Ehreth, who previously worked on Halo 4 and 5, is collaborating with a group that includes Pere Torrents, the former head of operations at Smilegate Barcelona (Crossfire). According to NetEase, the studio’s other developers have worked on well-known games like Ghost of Tsushima, Red Dead Redemption 2, and The Division.

Anchor Point is looking for developers, technical artists, and designers for nearly 100 available jobs, either to work in their offices, remotely, or in a hybrid capacity. Ehreth, the founder of Anchor Point, stated that the studio’s objective is to create an adventure that will remain fresh and provide a distinct experience that will surprise people every time they play. He also expressed his appreciation to NetEase Games for allowing them the creative freedom and resources to build an interconnected world that will extend beyond games and reach into other media.

NetEase Games has also acquired SkyBox Labs, the co-developer of Halo and Minecraft, as well as other studios like Grasshopper Manufacture, the creators of No More Heroes, and Quantic Dream, the Paris-based studio behind Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human, and Beyond: Two Souls. They’ve also founded Nagoshi Studio, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NetEase Games, which was created by Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi to focus on high-end titles primarily for consoles.
