The Sims 5 Potentially Free-To-Play?

Maxis, the developer behind the highly anticipated game known as Project Rene, is actively seeking a Head of Marketplace & Monetisation. The game, which was initially unveiled last October under the codename Project Rene, is generating a lot of buzz.

The job description for this role suggests that the chosen candidate will have the responsibility of managing the pricing of all the content within the game, which is expected to be free to enter. Although the job description was spotted by Sims Community, it appears to have been removed shortly after. The latest information reveals that the candidate will also ‘own’ Project Rene’s in-game marketplace where players can access both free and paid content. The in-game marketplace will provide a data-driven approach to enhance the player experience, focusing on maximising value, optimising spending patterns, and reducing player churn.

Last year, a sneak peek of Project Rene showcased some of the amazing creation tools that players can look forward to when the game becomes available. Maxis has mentioned that the game is still in the early stages of development. The upcoming game will offer both solo and collaborative play options, ensuring that users can enjoy the same fantastic experience across various devices, including mobile.

Lyndsay Pearson, the VP of franchise creative for The Sims, expressed their vision for the future of The Sims. They aim to reimagine the beloved Sims franchise by introducing new ways to play, while staying true to the charm of Sims, providing powerful tools, and delivering meaningful stories.

“We are building the next-generation Sims game and creative platform. Reimagining The Sims you know and love with new ways to play. This is the future of The Sims, built on a foundation of charming Sims, powerful tools, and meaningful stories.” – Lyndsay Pearson, VP of franchise creative for The Sims.

The announcement of Project Rene coincided with the news that The Sims 4 became free-to-play, eight years after its initial release. Since then, the game has attracted a staggering 16 million new players and boasts a player base of over 70 million worldwide. The popularity of The Sims 4 has been soaring, with a 53 percent increase in average weekly users.

Originally launched for PC in 2014, The Sims 4 expanded to Mac in 2015, and later to PS4 and Xbox One in 2017. The game’s success has been remarkable, generating over $1 billion in revenue as of February 2019, according to EA. The Sims franchise continues to captivate and engage players around the globe.
