There’ll Be More Spider-Men and Spider-Women Swinging Into Cinemas Soon

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse isn’t even out yet and Sony is already planning to expand its web of interdimensional web-warriors. A sequel and an all-female spinoff are both reportedly in development, with their respective directors and writers already supposedly confirmed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse sequel will be helmed by Joaquim Dos Santos, best known for Avatar: The Last Airbender and Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender animated series.

The writer attached to the sequel is David Callaham, who worked on the story for 2014’s Godzilla and the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 movie.

On the other hand, the all-female Spider-Verse spinoff will be directed by animation veteran Lauren Montgomery, whose past work includes Young Justice, The Legend of Korra, as well as many DC animated movies like Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, Batman: Year One, and more.

The script will be developed by Bek Smith, who has written several episodes of CBS’ television series Zoo.

Despite all this, we have received no details on what the sequel and all-female spinoff will entail, which is expected considering that Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse hasn’t even been released.

I can’t say much about the sequel until I’ve seen the upcoming first movie beforehand, but the all-female Spider-Verse spinoff seems to be full of potential. We could be seeing a team consisting of not only Spider-Gwen (who stars in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse), but also other iconic Spider-Women like Silk, Spider-Girl (May ‘Mayday’ Parker), Spiderling (Annie May Parker, Anya Corazon, and more.

I’ll have to say about what to expect from Sony’s Spider-Verse in the future when Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse releases in cinemas on December 7, 2018. Until then, stay tuned on Kakuchopurei!

In the meantime, check out the latest Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse trailer below to tide you over until next week.
