The Internet Responds To Borderlands 3 Getting Epic Store Exclusivity

We reported earlier this week that the PC version of Borderlands 3 is an Epic Store exclusive (for 6 months) following Epic Games CEO’s quest to buy exclusives. Twenty-four hours later, the internet bombs the Borderlands games with negative reviews to protest this move.

Here’s a breakdown over what happened from 4 to 5 April:

  • Borderlands 2 on Steam received 1,600 or so new negative Steam reviews.
  • Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel was hit with 420 negative reviews.
  • Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition picked up 320 bad reviews.

Choice comments include:

“Love the game, but I can’t recommend it because the sequel will be exclusive somewhere else.”

“Scummy company that insults every single person that purchased the game on this site. Skip it.”

And these…

Yikes. So far, there’s no word on whether Valve has reached out to Gearbox about the matter. These reviews won’t affect the triple-A prestige of Borderlands in the slightest, but it does remind us that companies like Valve need to sort their user review system out to prevent this sort of trolling. Even if it’s a protest, there are other ways to do this.
