Final Fantasy VII

The game that remains one of the most iconic games of all-time deserves to be on this list. Final Fantasy VII was the first game in the JRPG franchise to venture into full 3D motion video and graphics, with less emphasis on ‘fantasy’ compared to previous instalments and more on science fiction elements.

It’s filled with iconic and unforgettable moments, including the shockingly unexpected death of Aerith (at the time), which brought countless gamers to weeping man-tears. To this day, it is widely regarded as the game that essentially pushed JRPGs to the mainstream, instead of the niche genre it was.

With a brand new from-the-ground remake of Final Fantasy VII coming next year, this game will always be fondly remembered by PS1 fans the most, as it exclusively debuted on Sony’s console all those years ago in 1997.
