Will E3 2020 Be Postponed?
By Alleef Ashaari|March 5, 2020|0 Comment
Despite the confirmed absence of major companies like Sony, E3 is still one of the biggest and most highly-anticipated annual gaming events. However, with the world facing the Coronavirus outbreak and Los Angeles (where E3 is held) in a state of emergency, will E3 2020 still happen? Yes, according to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).
In a statement given by the ESA, they said (via GamesIndustry.biz):
“While the ESA continues to plan for a safe and successful E3 show June 9-11, 2020 — we are monitoring and evaluating the situation daily.
Our E3 team and partners continue to monitor COVID-19 via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
We are actively assessing the latest information and will continue to develop measures to further reduce health risks at the show.â€
The ESA’s latest statement comes after the Los Angeles County declared a state of emergency due to six additional cases of recent coronavirus infections in the state. According to the county’s health department, the new cases involved individuals who were “exposed to COVID-19 through close contacts.â€
Other major gaming-related events have already been postponed or cancelled in the wake of the coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak, including the Game Developers Conference 2020 and various esports competitions.
We’re still three months away from June 2020, so it remains possible that E3 2020 could still happen. Stay tuned on Kakuchopurei for the latest updates.
