Even movies coming out as far as June 2020 are getting pushed back due to the Covid-19 Coronavirus outbreak. Warner Bros. has announced that they have delayed Wonder Woman 1984 from its original release date of 5 June 2020 to 14 August 2020.
Along with Wonder Woman 1984, the studio has also delayed several other movies indefinitely, including Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical Into The Heights, the animated movie Scoob, and James Wan’s horror thriller Malignant.
Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said (via Variety):
“When we greenlit ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ it was with every intention to be viewed on the big screen and are excited to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing the film to theatres on Aug. 14.
We hope the world will be in a safer and healthier place by then.â€
Wonder Woman 1984 joins the other following movies from other studios, all of which have been delayed or pushed back due to the Covid-19 pandemic:
Even Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins had something to say about her movie’s delay, as she posted the following tweet earlier today:
We made Wonder Woman 1984 for the big screen and I believe in the power of cinema. In these terrible times, when theater owners are struggling as so many are, we are excited to re-date our film to August 14th 2020 in a theater near you, and pray for better times for all by then pic.twitter.com/85ykQ8x6NE
