Star Wars To Get The Taika Waititi Treatment
By Alleef Ashaari|May 5, 2020|1 Comment
Just in time for Star Wars Day on 4 May 2020, the official Star Wars Twitter account broke the best news for fans of the franchise. Thor Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit director Taika Waititi will direct and co-write a new Star Wars feature film for theatrical release.
Incoming news from a galaxy far, far away….

This won’t be Waititi’s first foray into the franchise, as he previously directed the first episode of The Mandalorian Season 1. Joining Waititi on screenplay duty for the new Star Wars movie will be screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns, best known for working on last year’s award-winning World War One movie 1917.
In addition, Leslye Headland (best known for being a co-showrunner on Netflix’s Russian Doll) is currently developing a new untitled Star Wars series for Disney Plus, on which she will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner.
This new untitled Star Wars series will be the fourth one to be announced for Disney Plus after The Mandalorian (the second season of which has been confirmed to be in post-production), a series featuring Rogue One‘s Cassian Andor, and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
However, both Taika Waititi’s movie and Headland’s series have yet to receive a release date at the time of writing. More will probably be revealed in the near future. We still know nothing about these new projects, especially on which era of Star Wars they will be exploring.
Perhaps they’ll take place during the age of the High Republic, the recently-announced new (and canon) ancient era for the Star Wars universe. Until then, may the 4th be with you, and enjoy Star Wars Day!
