Watch Dogs: Legion Source Code Hacked; No, Really

In perhaps one of 2020’s most ironic stories out there, Ubisoft’s action-adventure hacking game is hacked.

According to a ZDNet report, a ransomware gang called Egregor claimed to have obtained access to the internal networks of Ubisoft and Crytek, stealing data and subsequently obtained a copy of the source code of Watch Dogs: Legion. They claimed to have leaked it online at a size of around 560GB. This means that we might be seeing mods of the PC version of Watch Dogs: Legion popping up in the near future, or just a version that’s cracked being distributed for free online.

Groups like Egregor usually steal data, encrypt it, and hold it for ransom to force companies to pay a lot of money so that they don’t leak the file. Failing to do so will result in them releasing the file out in the wild. So far Ubisoft have yet to announce anything, so it’s likely that the supposed leak may not affect the company’s bottom line.

In related news, Crytek was also hit hard with the ransomware plot, having its resources and information about its games’ dev process obtained like Arena of Fate and Warface, as well as its Gface social gaming network.
