The PS5 Is Now The Fastest-Selling Console In US History

The PS5 is certainly doing well, especially in the United States Of America. In its first five months on the market, the PlayStation 5 is now the fastest-selling console in U.S. history in terms of both unit and dollar sales.

That’s impressive, considering that the Xbox’s hold in the U.S. is pretty strong compared to other countries in the world. According to statistics provided by the NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella, this breaks the record held by any other video game console before it (unit and dollar sales within the first five months).

The launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S has also resulted in increasing video game hardware sales. Compared to last year, March 2021 saw US$680 million, which is 47 percent higher than the same month in 2020. Interestingly, while the PS5 broke records left and right, the Nintendo Switch remained the best-selling hardware platform in March 2021.

This is all good news for Sony in the current console war, as it means that they can keep building on the momentum achieved by the PS4 in its lifetime with the PS5. It doesn’t look like the PS5 will repeat the mistakes of the PS3, but it’s still too early in this generation to safely say for sure.

In the meantime, you can check out my in-depth and no-holds-barred thoughts on the PS5 after having it for more than a month. However, if you’re looking for a more straightforward review, you should head on over here instead.
