Diablo 4’s Server Slam Shows That Its Network Infrastructure Can Take It Like A Champ

Folks, we’ve come to a point where we hope that a game we pay US$60 for would be stable enough to run without any hiccups. Titles like the latest Star Wars game to even Redfall prove that sometimes big budgets do not equate stable PC product. Thankfully, Diablo 4’s latest beta aims to squash those perceptions.

Activision Blizzard’s latest beta session for Diablo 4, title the Diablo 4 Server Slam, is basically the same as the last few betas. Except this time, there are low queue times, stable performances, and a good amount of UI and balance changes. People are actually happy about this Server Slam, which seems to have done its job painting a good image for the game. This is evident with posts like below which praises the Server Slam via a tongue-in-cheek post.

Server Slam is a total ripoff!

The game also received some nice design and mechanical changes: lovely font work and UI, better drip feed of loot as you progress through the game thus making weapons of higher tier valuable than before, and some class buffs and balances. While the Necromancer got overtly nerfed with weaker minions and skeletons, Blizzard buffed them midway during the Server Slam so that they can take a few hits before they die off.

Otherwise, the class upgrades for the beta seem viable. I had to switch up my Sorcerer tactics so that she burns things more with Firewall and Fire Shield, while my Rogue had to rely on Poison Imbuements and Puncture/Twisted Knife combos just to have both DPS and DOTs aplenty while darting around like a madman. Barbarian and Druid received some standard buffs involving their damage-dealing skills. We’re still far from making a judgment call on which class is the best since the level cap is 20, but so far every class is fun.

Sure, I had a disconnect or two halfway, especially when trying to queue for the Ashava fight. But other than those few instances of annoyance, everything in the Server Slam feels hunky dory. If Blizzard aims to showcase how stable the servers will be at launch (touch wood), then it did a good job with this short beta session that brazenly decides to happen at the same time as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom weekend. Ballsy, to say the least.

Diablo 4 will be out for PC and consoles this 6th June.
