Destiny 2 The Final Shape Will Bring You Into The Traveler; Out Next February
Bungie has unveiled a ton of information about its next major expansion of Destiny 2 that plans to bring the Light saga to a close: The Final Shape.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape will have the game’s Guardians enter the Traveler’s body and see what wonders (and horrors) it hosts as they explore its insides. The game’s new patrol zone is called the Pale Heart and is meant to feel weird and ephemeral; this is the insides of the Traveler after all. You basically have to fix what the game’s main bad guy, The Witness, has twisted inside. Players will have to come across the Witness’ monolith and deal with The Witness and his Subjugators; these enemies wield both Stasis and Strand powers to use against you.
The game’s story will continue on with the Raid. The Final Shape’s eventual Raid, where 6 players team up to deal with a tough slew of stages and big boss, will have you defeating The Witness but the team hinted that “it may not be enough”.
Don’t worry: your Guardians will be getting new Supers, starting with Warlocks and their powered-up Solar Super. This new ultimate ability allows you to wield powerful melee and grenade abilities while enhancing any nearby Guardians who are equipped with a Solar subclass.
Titan gets a Void subclass called Twilight Arsenal where you summon axes. They deal damage and act as weapons for nearby Guardians (and yourself) to use. Titans can also consume a grenade to create a barrier that blocks damage and can be released to deal AoE damage.
Hunters get an Arc Super that lets them hurl knives, teleport to it, and deal AoE damage; this can be chained three times. They also get new Aspects that allow them to buff teammates.
Players will also get new Exotics in The Final Shape, like the Tesselation fusion rifle, The Dragon’s Breath, and Red Death. The last two are returning weapons from Destiny 1. There will also be a new subcategory of weapons, one of them being rocket pistols that deal AoE damage via slow-moving rockets, and autorifle subclasses that can switch between damage and healing properties for your allies.
In addition, the structure of Destiny 2 moving forward will be a little different. The game will adopt the “Episodes” route instead of the current Season updates. Destiny 2 has been rolling out content in 4 seasons per year, lasting about 3 to 4 months. The Episodes format will roll out when Destiny 2: The Final Shape goes live; each episode contains 3 Acts, with each Act running for 6 weeks. Long story short, Destiny fans will get 9 mini seasons instead of 4 big seasons with long wait times in-between.
Destiny 2 The Final Shape expansion will be out on 27 February 2024. You can watch the whole showcase below.
