Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Spoiler Breakdown, Easter Eggs & Post Credits Explained

Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now available exclusively for the PS5. The highly-anticipated sequel to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales is perhaps the best Spider-Man game ever made, so head on over here for our full and in-depth spoiler-free review of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

In this article, I will refer to the Insomniac Games’ version of the Marvel Universe as the Gamerverse because that is the official designation for it. I’ll be discussing full spoilers from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below, so beware:

Chameleon Is In The Gamerverse And He’s Kraven’s Brother

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, at the end of the Target Identified side mission, Miles Morales learns that Kraven has been hunting the Chameleon because they grew up together as children and have some kind of sibling rivalry. Chameleon even calls Kraven his “brother”. At the end of the side mission, we get a glimpse of Chameleon. He might return to avenge Kraven in a potential Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC.

This is very similar to the comic book version of Chameleon (whose real name is Dmitri Smerdyakov). In the comics, the Chameleon grew up with Kraven and they’re half-brothers (they have the same father). Their relationship is complicated, which is similar to the Insomniac Games’ Gamerverse version.

Cult Of The Flame Leader Is Cletus Kasady AKA Carnage

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, after fighting against the cult of The Flame in several side missions, the final side mission reveals that the leader of The Flame is known by several aliases, including Cletus Kasady. In that mission, Cletus escapes from Spider-Man (Peter Parker) and Wraith (Yuri Watanabe) and even mentions the name, “Carnage” after stealing a red symbiote. What this means is that Cletus will potentially return as a fully-realized Carnage in a potential Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC.

Cletus Kasady AKA Carnage is one of the most iconic Spider-Man villains in the comics. He’s known to be even more powerful than Venom and perhaps the strongest symbiote next to Knull himself (more on Knull below). It will be great to see Carnage in a current-gen game.

The Spiral Is A Symbol Of Knull, Who Is The King In Black AKA The God Of The Symbiotes

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, while exploring Dr. Curt Connor’s (AKA The Lizard) lab, Spider-Man (Peter Parker) discovers that the Venom symbiote is alien in origin. On the meteor is a mysterious spiral symbol. Later in the game, Dr. Curt Connors mentions a collective consciousness of the symbiotes, which Peter refers to as functioning as a hive mind. This means that the symbiotes all have the same source. The spiral symbol is never explained in the game itself.

In the comics, the spiral symbol is the symbol of Knull, also known as the King In Black and the god of the symbiotes. He’s the creator of the symbiotes and he’s also the lord of the abyss in the Marvel Universe. He’s extremely powerful, having created a weapon called All-Black The Necrosword which is capable of killing Celestials. However, due to how powerful he is, it’s extremely unlikely that he’ll be a main villain of Insomniac Games’ Gamerverse anytime soon.

Mary Jane Becomes Scream, Another Famous Symbiote From The Comics

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Venom infects Mary Jane and she becomes the host of the symbiote Scream.

In the comics, Scream is notable for using her hair as a weapon, similar to the game’s version. However, Mary Jane has never been a host of Scream in the comics. There have only been three Scream hosts in the comics, including Donna Diego, Patricia Robertson and Andi Benton.

Doctor Strange, Wong And Wand Of Watoomb Easter Egg

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Black Cat steals the Wand Of Watoomb from the Sanctum Santorum. After Spider-Man (Miles Morales) helps Black Cat fight and escape from Kraven’s Hunters, the Wand Of Watoomb disappears. Miles then gets a note of appreciation from Doctor Strange and Wong.

This proves that Doctor Strange is one of the few heroes besides the two Spider-Men and the Avengers to exist in Insomniac Games’ Gamerverse. In the comics, the Wand Of Watoomb is an extremely powerful magical artifact, and one that Doctor Strange protects from those seeking to use it for the wrong reasons.

Peter Parker Becomes Anti-Venom, Who Is Different In The Comics

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, one of the biggest twists in the game is when Martin Li AKA Mr. Negative helps Peter Parker “clean” the symbiote remnants inside him, which turned him into Anti-Venom. This gives him the ability to kill symbiotes more easily and grants him a way of defeating Venom for good.

In the comics, Peter Parker has never been Anti-Venom. Eddie Brock was the first Anti-Venom, while the second was Ishaan Pai and the most recent one was Eugene ‘Flash’ Thompson. However, the way that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Peter Parker gets his Anti-Venom symbiote is similar to the way that Eddie Brock got his; via Martin Li’s powers.

Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse Easter Egg: Delilah Takes The Spider-Bots And Mentions Miguel O’ Hara AKA Spider-Man 2099

This is one of the more interesting and obscure easter eggs in the entirety of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

First, to understand this easter egg, you need to understand that there was a scrapped/deleted post-credits scene in Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse from earlier this way. This post-credits scene would have shown Spot relaxing at a place called the Bar With No Name alongside several other villains and the bartender, Delilah.

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, after collecting all 42 Spider-Bots, a special side mission will trigger. During this side mission, Spider-Man (Peter Parker) discovers a portal opening. This portal looks almost exactly like the multiversal portals in the Spider-Verse movies. In this portal, a woman bartender named Delilah takes all the Spider-Bots from Peter and tells him to not tell Miguel (Miguel O’ Hara AKA Spider-Man 2099). The portal then closes and Peter is confused, and so are many players, I assume.

Well, that’s Delilah at the Bar With No Name, who was originally supposed to appear in a post-credits scene in Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse and was recently featured in the official artbook for the movie.

In the comics, the Bar With No Name is a secret safe place where villains can meet up and relax. Delilah is an assassin and Spider-Man villain, who is now a bartender at the Bar With No Name. It’s currently unclear if this will all lead to something, or if it’s just something that Sony thought would be fun to include.

G-Serum, Harry Or Norman Will Be The Green Goblin

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, after the Venom symbiote is removed from his body, Harry Osborn goes into a coma. This greatly upsets his father, Norman Osborn, who calls someone and tells them to get the “G-Serum” ready.

In the comics, Norman Osborn becomes the Green Goblin after getting exposed to the Goblin Formula, which was created by a scientist named Dr. Mendel Stromm.

In the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 version, it seems that Insomniac Games has chosen to call it the G-Serum (probably short for Goblin Serum) instead of Goblin Formula like in the comics. It could also be the game’s version of Dr. Mendel Stromm that Norman is calling.

Whatever it is, we can rest assured that Spider-Man’s most iconic villain, the Green Goblin, is coming in a potential Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. However, we still don’t know if it will be Norman Osborn or Harry Osborn who will be the Green Goblin, though it will likely be the former, considering that Harry was already the host of Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Post Credits Scene 1: Doctor Octopus Will Return For The “Final Chapter”

In the first post-credits scene for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Norman Osborn visits an incarcerated Otto Octavius AKA Doctor Octopus at the Raft prison. He asks about the identity of the Spider-Men, but Doctor Octopus doesn’t answer and only teases that he’s currently planning for the “final chapter”.

This is big because it might mean that Doc Ock will return as a major villain in a potential Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. It’s interesting that he calls it the “final chapter” because it might mean that Insomniac could be adapting elements from the Ends Of The Earth storyline in the comics, or maybe even Superior Spider-Man.

In the Ends Of The Earth storyline in the comics, Doctor Octopus learns that he only has a few months left to live due to injuries he has sustained in fights with Spider-Man and other heroes. Because of this, he reunites the Sinister Six with the aim of destroying the world. It’s also interesting how this incarnation of the Sinister Six team is already conveniently available in Insomniac Games’ Gamerverse as well since it includes Doc Ock himself, Chameleon, Electro, Mysterio, Rhino, and Sandman.

Meanwhile, in Superior Spider-Man (which is the followup to Ends Of The Earth), Doc Ock takes over Peter’s body as his own and tries to become a better Spider-Man.

These are two potential storylines Insomniac might adapt. Then again, everything they’ve done so far has been original storylines so they might choose to do so again and not adapt anything from the comics.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Post Credits Scene 2: Rio Morales’ Boyfriend Is Albert Moon, Who Is The Father Of Cindy Moon AKA Silk (Another Spider-Person)

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, one of the biggest surprises is when it’s revealed that Rio Morales’ (Miles’ mother) boyfriend is a man named Albert Moon and he brought his daughter along to the date, and that her name is Cindy. Cindy Moon.

In the comics, Cindy Moon is the hero known as Silk. She’s also a Spider-Person with an arguably slightly stronger version of Peter’s powers. However, what’s different about the Insomniac Games’ Gamerverse version of Cindy is that she’s much younger, and closer to Miles’ age. In the comics, she’s more to being Peter’s counterpart.

This is huge because with Peter taking a break from being Spider-Man as of the ending in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Miles might need some help and who is there better to help him than another Spider-Person. In this case, Silk. Maybe Silk will replace Peter as the other playable Spider-Person in a potential Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.
