Street Fighter 6 Adds More Outfits & Akuma This December
Capcom has revealed new outfits for its Street Fighter 6’s base roster.
Highlights include Kimberly’s new afro ninja getup, Lily’s Mariachi outfit, Manon’s French noblewoman revolution regalia, and Zangief’s mobster outfit. All of them are sick and will probably get more people shelling out extra money for costumes.
If you’re interested in the thought process behind the costumes, you can check out the Capcom Developer’s Column regarding Outfit 3 here:
Kimberly
Design Team: At first, I struggled to find the right direction, but with the help of those around me, I was able to give form to Kimberly’s idea of what she enthusiastically thinks is “ninja-like.” I am very honored to have been in charge of designing this outfit, as she is one of my favorite characters. I love her cute round hair and round pants and I hope you try her out in-game!
Chun-Li
Design Team: The concept of this outfit is Chun-Li’s casual wear. I thought that even her casual clothes would maintain an ease of movement and elegance, so I combined inner-wear that combines aspects of training attire with a Chinese and Korean-influenced jacket. The large slit shows her back when she moves, and the transparency provides a delicate touch when seen on the screen. Her sweatpants were designed with a basketball jersey in mind with side buttons that can be undone at the waist to make it easier for a character with thick thighs like Chun-Li to put them on. I’ve also never seen Chun-Li wear wide-legged pants before, so I decided to give this a shot.
Manon
Design Team: I was asked to come up with the design for Manon’s casual attire. The concept we landed on was a noble outfit inspired by the French Revolution. I had other concepts in mind like a ballet dancer costume, but after much trial and error, I finally settled on this outfit. I wanted to make the lower half of her body into a white horse, and make her into something like a centaur, but that idea was ultimately dismissed.
Zangief
Design Team: I was asked for a design to show his unlikely intellectual side, and his dignified position as a wrestler. The design process went quite smoothly between the art director and me. I like the way his badge and watch make a strong statement.
Lily
Design Team: This is Lily in her traditional Mexican outfit that she might wear at a local festival. I thought pants would be easier to move in, and would suit Lily’s personality better than a dress, so I designed this outfit with the inspiration from a mariachi costume. While maintaining her refreshing and brave impression, I used items like a large sombrero, bright flower hair ornaments, and red ribbons to enhance her cuteness.
Cammy
Design Team: The red coat Cammy wore in the Street Fighter II movie was so striking that I designed her to wear a similar red coat that she might wear when going undercover. I designed the coat in a more modern and functional style that I thought would suit her. I also gave her a pendant to symbolize the bond with her allies.
Juri
Design Team: This outfit was based on the idea of what she lounges around in at home. Her default outfit already gave a strong impression of what she might wear for her casual clothes, so we considered her off-duty state and landed on this design. I was careful not to dilute her aggressive and provocative aspects even when she is off duty. One of the things I want to highlight are her hair horns that become disheveled from sleeping in this outfit.
The costumes will be out on 1st December for purchase; prices for individual costumes and bundles have yet to be announced. In addition, Outfit 3 for the Year 1 DLC characters will drop at the same time as Akuma in 2024.
