Ghostrunner 2 – Everything You Need To Know Before You Buy
By Lewis Larcombe|December 15, 2023|0 Comment
Ghostrunner 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2020 hit, continues the saga of Jack, the titular ghostrunner, as he navigates a dystopian cyberpunk world filled with perilous challenges.
Developed as a first-person parkour experience, the game maintains its signature one-hit mechanics, creating an intense and demanding gameplay environment reminiscent of a dysfunctional 2D platformer. The addition of a bike for traversal introduces a unique element, though its unwieldy nature adds an extra layer of challenge to the already tough courses.
Set in the futuristic Dharma Tower and its surroundings, Ghostrunner 2’s narrative unfolds a few years after the events of the first game. Players once again step into the cyberninja shoes of Jack, tasked with aiding the human resistance and confronting the mysteries surrounding their existence. The game seamlessly blends linear levels with open-ended sections, providing a dynamic and immersive experience.
Ninja skills are at the forefront, allowing players to deftly manoeuvre through levels with speed, execute one-hit kills, deflect projectiles, and manipulate time with well-timed dodges. The game encourages players to get good as they learn the layouts, perfect parrying, and conquer ever-escalating stages. Boss fights, a hallmark of the series, are designed to be challenging yet fair, offering a satisfying sense of accomplishment.
Ghostrunner 2’s upgrade system is streamlined, offering passive buffs that enhance the cyberninja’s abilities. The cyber levels feature engaging gimmicks, and new skills and weapons, such as shurikens and stealth abilities, add practicality to both puzzles and combat. Despite some flaws in the bike segments, the game introduces a well-planned chase sequence, showcasing the developers’ commitment to delivering a compelling experience.
In essence, Ghostrunner 2 remains a top-tier 3D platformer, excelling in the first-person parkour niche. With its challenging gameplay, intricate level design, and a narrative that pushes players to reassess their cyberninja principles, the sequel builds upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, offering a thrilling and immersive gaming experience.
Ghostrunner 2 promises a gaming experience that thrives on intense challenges, harking back to the one-hit mechanics that defined its predecessor in 2020. Building upon the established foundation, the sequel introduces a compelling addition with a traversal bike, even though its segments are acknowledged as notably tough, contributing a layer of complexity to the overall gameplay.
The core parkour elements, synonymous with the franchise, have been not only preserved but also expanded upon, delivering a relentless and action-packed gaming adventure that is sure to captivate fans of the first instalment. The narrative arc, resuming a few years after the original game, unfolds against diverse backdrops, such as the iconic Dharma Tower and the desolate wasteland, adding depth and variety to the overarching story.
Players find themselves equipped with a repertoire of ninja skills that includes the lethal one-hit kills, nimble projectile deflection, and the ability to manipulate time, injecting a strategic layer into the gameplay. The streamlined upgrade system is a noteworthy feature, offering players an avenue to enhance their cyberninja’s abilities through passive buffs, enriching the overall gaming experience.
The intricately designed levels boast engaging gimmicks and themes, complemented by boss fights that are challenging yet designed to provide a sense of accomplishment. The game’s replayability factor is further underscored through speedrunning, inviting players to conquer stages for the fastest times and the fewest deaths.
The carefully balanced difficulty, coupled with swift reloads and precise controls, ensures a fair yet consistently challenging experience. Ghostrunner 2 emerges not only as a worthy successor but as a standout in the 3D platformer genre, excelling in the first-person parkour niche with its meticulously crafted gameplay, where the blend of challenge and action is finely tuned to provide a deeply satisfying gaming adventure.
Ghostrunner 2 offers three different editions for purchase. Firstly, there’s the Standard Edition, priced reasonably at RM119.00.
The Deluxe Edition, priced at RM149.00, includes the base game along with Ahriman’s Katana Sword and Hand Skin, Modern Energy Sword and Hand Skin, Molten Blade Sword and Hand Skin, Gothic Blue Sword and Hand Skin, and a Hand Hologram featuring your platform ID.
Lastly, the Brutal Edition, available for RM179.00, comes with a Deluxe Sword and Hand Skin Pack (4x), Hand Hologram with platform ID, Aqua Animated Sword and Hand Skin, Design 24A Motorcycle Skin, and a Season Pass. Additionally, as of the current writing, the Ghostrunner Game Bundle is on sale on Steam for 45% off, priced at only RM118.96, including the original game and Ghostrunner 2.
Because Ghostrunner 2 is designed as a platformer, it is primarily optimized for mid-range PCs. However, this doesn’t mean the game is unplayable on entry-level PCs. Simply reduce the resolution slightly, and you shouldn’t encounter any issues.
