Ubisoft CEO Defends Skull And Bones Absurd Price Tag
By Jonathan Toyad|February 9, 2024|0 Comment
The 2017-announced Skull and Bones will be out later this February of 2024, and will be on sale for a whopping US$60. Despite all signs pointing that the game should be a free-to-play title given its online multiplayer and “live service” style structure (it has a roadmap, premium currency system and all), Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot defended the cost in a recent earnings call.
Guillemot said that the game’s high price is warranted because it’s a “quadruple-A game”. When told that the high price may limit the size of the player base (which is hugely understandable given the game’s current reputation), Guillemot said the following:
“You will see that Skull and Bones is a full-fledged game. It’s a very big game and we feel that people will really see how vast and complete that game is. So it’s a really full triple-A, quadruple-A game that will deliver in the long run.”
We’ll find out soon enough whether it will deliver, in any case. Skull and Bones will finally launch on 16 February 2024 after numerous delays. Check out our latest Push To Talk video about the game and how it’s shaping up so far. We heard that the media and content creator pre-release event for Skull and Bones in Singapore was quite a shindig; a good sign that the game may exceed expectations.
