Andor Season 2 Starts Filming This Month, Yavin Setting Confirmed

Andor Season 1 still hasn’t ended, but the cast and crew are already gearing up to begin filming the second and final season of the Rogue One A Star Wars Story spinoff series this month.

In an interview with Collider, Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy confirmed that Andor Season 2 will begin filming at the end of November 2022 just before Thanksgiving. He also confirmed that Ariel Kleiman (The Resort, Yellowjackets), Janus Metz (Borg vs. McEnroe, True Detective), and Alonso Ruizpalacios (Outer Range, Narcos: Mexico) would be part of the directing crew for Season 2. Kleiman will direct six episodes, and the other six will be split between Metz and Ruizpalacios.

Gilroy’s brother Dan Gilroy and Beau Willimon will be returning to write on Season 2 alongside newcomer Tom Bissell.

Best of all, Gilroy confirmed that Andor Season 2 will feature Yavin, and its famous moon, Yavin 4. He said:

“… and we’re going to Yavin, and then we’re going into places where we eventually need to really weave our way back to the source. So Tom came in, and he’s been great. So, he’s got some episodes too.”

For those unfamiliar, the Yavin system, and one of the moons, Yavin 4, originally appeared in Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope. One of the most iconic events in Star Wars took place there, which is the Battle Of Yavin in the Galactic Civil War where Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance destroyed the first Death Star. Yavin 4 was also the HQ of the Rebel Alliance before they later moved to Hoth.

It’s also previously been confirmed that Andor Season 1 would take place over one year and that Season 2 would cover the four years leading up to Rogue One. Just like Season 1, Season 2 will consist of 12 episodes.

Check out my spoiler-free review of Andor here.

Check out my breakdown of the first three episodes of Andor, Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6, Episode 7, Episode 8 and Episode 9 here.

In the meantime, check out my interview with Andor actors Kyle Soller and Denise Gough by heading over here for the written article, or you can watch the entire interview below:
