Apex Legends Mobile Is Still Going To Happen

During their third-quarter earnings call, EA answered several questions, one of which was regarding the mobile version of Apex Legends. Apex Legends Mobile (not the official name) was initially announced late last year, with scarce details.

Thanks to the new financial report, we now know that the publisher is working with a Chinese developer on Apex Legends Mobile.

However, EA doesn’t reveal the name of the Chinese developer, choosing to instead keep it a secret for now. This isn’t the first instance of a Chinese developer with Western publishers on AAA mobile games. For example, Tencent subsidiary TiMi Studios developed Call Of Duty Mobile for Activision.

According to games industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said:

“Rolling mobile out in China, you need to have a partner, and we’re, as we’ve said in the prepared remarks today, working with a partner there.

We’re very excited about the opportunity.”

EA chief executive Andrew Wilson previously stated that Apex Legends Mobile would be available sometime in the 2021 fiscal year, which officially begins on 1 October 2020. However, that was from last year’s financial report, and no official release date has been revealed at the time of writing.

Call Of Duty Mobile recently took over the world by the storm with over 100 million downloads, so it’s not a surprise that everyone else is jumping on the mobile bandwagon. That’s clearly where the money is in the games industry right now.
