Legendary Ex-Disney Animator’s New Movie Looks Out Of This World

Glen Keane is a legendary animator known for making some of the best Disney classic, including the likes of The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Tarzan and Tangled. Working together with China’s Pearl Studios, Over the Moon follows a young girl in China bent on proving the existence of the legendary Moon Goddess.

The synopsis reads:

Fueled with determination and a passion for science, a bright young girl builds a rocket ship to the moon to prove the existence of a legendary Moon Goddess.

Directed by Oscar-Winning Filmmaker & Animator, Glen Keane, and produced by Gennie Rim and Peilin Chou.

Starring Cathy Ang, Phillipa Soo, Robert G. Chiu, Ken Jeong, John Cho, Ruthie Ann Miles, Margaret Cho, Kimiko Glenn, Artt Butler and Sandra Oh.

Over The Moon

The movie looks beautiful and very Disney-like, but with what seems to be the soul of a Pixar film. The last moments subvert the entire expectations of the viewer. While it begins with a grounded feel to it, the ending of the trailer is anything but, with aliens and (literally) out of this world visuals.

Let’s hope this continues Netflix’s winning streak with animated movies, which began with 2019’s Oscar-nominated Klaus. Over The Moon is slated to premiere exclusively on Netflix sometime in Fall 2020.

In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
