X-Men Veteran To Write & Produce New Battlestar Galactica Movie

Simon Kinberg is going to write and produce a new Battlestar Galactica movie for Universal Pictures. He is best known for writing and/or producing 2006’s X-Men The Last Stand, 2014’s X-Men Days Of Future Past, 2015’s Fantastic Four, 2016’s X-Men Apocalypse, and 2019’s X-Men Dark Phoenix (which he also directed).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kinberg said in a statement:
“Battlestar Galactica is one of the holy grails in science fiction, and I couldn’t be more excited about bringing something new to the franchise while honouring what’s made it so iconic and enduring.
I’m so grateful that Dylan and my partners at Universal have trusted me with this incredible universe.”
This new Battlestar Galactica movie will not be connected to the upcoming new Battlestar Galactica series by Universal’s streaming service Peacock, which will be helmed by Mr. Robot showrunner Sam Esmail.
It’s bizarre that they’re also making a movie while having plans for a series at the same time. While Ronald D. Moore’s 2004 reboot series remains one of the best sci-fi series, the original 1978 series by Glen A. Larson never really took off.
Both followed the remnants of humanity escaping from the android race called the Cylons after losing the war. The Battlestar Galactica is the only remaining military ship in the Colonial Fleet, which is where the name of the series is derived from.
You can check out a supercut of the original Battlestar Galactica series in the video below, though it’s much better if you just watch the superior 2004 series instead.
