BioShock 4 Job Listings Hint At Open World & RPG Sidequests

We previously reported back near the end of 2019 that 2K Games’ Cloud Chamber is actively working on a new BioShock game. However, we also said that the game would be at least several years away and no new information has come to light, until now.

Recently, the developer has listed several new job positions on its official website. The job descriptions seem to confirm at least two new details about the mysterious new BioShock game; it will be open world, as well as feature both primary and secondary RPG-like sidequests.

For instance, the description for the Senior Writer role states:

“We’re hoping to find someone who can weave impactful, character-driven stories in an open-world setting.

Brainstorm primary and secondary mission content with design.

Another job listing mentions that having experience developing games in Unreal Engine 4 experience is considered “strongly desired”. Interestingly, the AI Programmer role states that candidates will have to “collaborate with Design to create a vision for a meaningful AI urban crowd system” which means that this open-world will probably be heavily populated in a city setting.

The most recent game in the franchise was 2013’s BioShock Infinite, which received a mixed reception due to its unfocused multiple-ending narratives and less-than-satisfying gunplay compared to its predecessors. Maybe we’ll learn more at the upcoming E3 2021, where Take-Two Interactive is confirmed to participate.
