[Report] Konami Is Working On New Metal Gear, Castlevania, & Silent Hill Projects [Update]

Update [2/10/2021]: New info on Silent Hill entry from Kojima Productions and Metal Gear Solid 3 remake from Singapore’s Virtuos Studios added.
It looks like Konami has big plans for the near future. According to anonymous sources (via VGC), Konami is working on new games from the Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill franchises.
It’s been a while since Konami released any major new single-player entries or instalments of their big franchises. Their last new Metal Gear game was the universally-derided Metal Gear Survive in 2018, and the last Castlevania release was 2014’s Castlevania Lords Of Shadow 2.
The last Silent Hill game was even longer ago, with Silent Hill Downpour in 2012 being the last in the franchise. That’s almost a decade ago.
What have they been doing? Well, Konami has shifted to focusing on Pachinko games in Japan and mobile titles in general, with a sprinkling of console games in between. However, the company underwent a restructuring earlier this year, with the current management deciding to go back to games development on its biggest franchises.
The sources claim that one of these titles will be a new Castlevania game, which is described as a “reimagining†of the series currently in development internally at Konami in Japan, with support from local external studios.
Meanwhile, a Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater remake might be in development at an external studio in China and the Singapore-based Virtuos studio, as well as remasters of the original Metal Gear Solid games for modern consoles. Eurogamer has also mentioned that Konami mulled over a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake at one point.
Last but not least, several Silent Hill games are currently in development at various external development studios. According to Gematsu, a new Silent Hill is in development at a prominent Japanese developer studio, Kojima Productions, with the game being funded by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Obviously, we should take all this with a grain of salt for now, but if Capcom managed to make a resurgence in the past few years, maybe it’s time for Konami to follow suit as well.
Fingers crossed.
