Xbox Head Honcho Quells Call Of Duty Worry
By Alleef Ashaari|January 21, 2022|0 Comment
Earlier this week, the games industry was shocked when Microsoft announced that they would be acquiring Activision Blizzard in one of the largest deals ever in the history of gaming. This has many PlayStation users worried if game franchises under Activision Blizzard would eventually become Xbox exclusives.
Now we know at least one franchise will remain playable on PlayStation; Call Of Duty.
In a tweet earlier today, Xbox head Phil Spencer said:
“Had good calls this week with leaders at Sony. I confirmed our intent to honor all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard and our desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. Sony is an important part of our industry, and we value our relationship.â€

From this statement, it seems like Microsoft wants to keep Call Of Duty as a multiplatform release. There has been precedent for this in the past. Microsoft owns Minecraft developer Mojang, but the game remains available on other platforms like PlayStation (even spinoffs like Minecraft Dungeons).
This tweet isn’t exactly a written and binding contract though, so it’s still possible that the Call Of Duty franchise might eventually become an Xbox exclusive in the future. For now, PlayStation players can heave a sigh of relief.
