From New Line Cinema, Dwayne Johnson stars in the action adventure Black Adam. The first-ever feature film to explore the story of the DC Super Hero comes to the big screen under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise).

The synopsis reads:

Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods, and imprisoned just as quickly, Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

Johnson stars alongside Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari as Ishmael, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Bodhi Sabongui as Amon, and Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate.

“Black Adam” smashes into theaters and IMAX internationally beginning from 19 October 2022.

The Origin Of Black Adam

It looks like this version of the character will follow the New 52 origins. He’s a slave named Teth-Adam from thousands of years ago who lived in the fictional land of Kahndaq and was granted powers by the wizard Shazam.

Black Adam pretty much has the same powers as Billy Batson’s Captain Marvel/Shazam, but he gets his powers from a different set of gods: Shu, Horus, Amon, Zehuti, Aten, and Mehen.

Meet The Justice Society

The Justice Society are basically the precursor to the Justice League; a group of heroes.

First up is Hawkman, played by Aldis Hodge. There are several versions of the character, but this is likely the Carter Hall version.

Next is Albert Rothstein AKA Atom Smasher (played by Noah Centineo). Not to be confused with The Atom, his powers is basically super strength and the ability to grow large.

Kent Nelson AKA Doctor Fate is played by Pierce Brosnan and he’s essentially the Doctor Strange of the DC Universe. He gets his powers from one of the Lords Of Order, Nabu.

This swirling person is probably Maxine Hunkel AKA Cyclone (played by Quintessa Swindell). She can manipulate the wind.

Intergang Are The Villains

These are members of Intergang, an organized crime group in the DC Universe who uses alien technology to commit crimes, including technology from Darkseid’s Apokolips. Intergang’s role in the movie was revealed by Sarah Shahi, the actress playing Adrianna Tomaz.

Adrianna Tomaz AKA Isis And Amon Tomaz As Osiris

Sarah Shahi is playing Adrianna Tomaz. In the comics, Black Adam falls in love in Adrianna Tomaz and she’s the main reason for why he becomes more heroic and less of a villain. Adrianna Tomaz also gains powers after Black Adam gives her the amulet of Isis. When she says “I am Isis.”, she will transform and gain the powers of several Egyptian gods and goddesses.

The boy beside Adrianna Tomaz is Amon Tomaz, who is played by Bodhi Sabongui. In the comics, Amon would later also gain powers and become Osiris. He has to say “Black Adam” to transform and activate his powers. Together, Black Adam, Isis and Osiris are the Black Adam family, just like how Captain Marvel/Shazam has his own Marvel family.
