Overwatch 2 Hero Designer Hints At More Junkrat Nerfs
By Lewis Larcombe|February 22, 2023|0 Comment
It looks like Junkrat might be in for another nerf, based on a recent comment from Blizzard Entertainment’s Lead Hero Designer on Reddit.
Junkrat went through some changes from the first game to the sequel, including a redesign and a buff to his Steel Trap ability. However, since the release of Overwatch 2, Junkrat and several other heroes have undergone nerfs. For instance, his concussion mines’ damage output was recently reduced.
Although this change helped balance things out, some players believe that Junkrat still needs more tweaking. And it looks like some developers might be on the same page.
It seems like Blizzard’s Lead Hero Designer, Alex Dawson, has been actively listening to fan feedback on Reddit. In a recent AMA about Season 3 Hero balancing, Dawson specifically addressed complaints about Junkrat’s gameplay.
When asked about potential balancing changes for the character, Dawson mentioned that the team is looking into giving Junkrat’s grenades a smaller hitbox after bouncing off a wall. According to Dawson, this could help alleviate some of the issues players face when battling against Junkrat, while still keeping his gameplay rewarding.
“One change we’d like to make but it will take some additional tech is: Junkrat’s grenades have a smaller hitbox after bouncing off a wall. We believe that type of change would alleviate a lot of the pain points when facing Junkrat and still keep his gameplay rewarding.”
Unfortunately, Dawson couldn’t provide a timeline for when the change might be implemented since it requires input from multiple teams. However, if the change does eventually make it into the game, it could be a game-changer for players who struggle against Junkrat on the battlefield.
Along with the previously mentioned mine nerf, it’s worth noting that Junkrat also received a new Hong Hai Er skin in the Season 3 Battle Pass.
