Modern Warfare III Was Reportedly Developed In Only 16 Months

In the fast-paced realm of gaming, the Call of Duty franchise has long been a staple. However, recent reports shed light on the tumultuous development journey of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, revealing a rushed schedule and unexpected twists.

Check out our review on MWIII

Originally envisioned as an expansion to its predecessor, Modern Warfare III was slated to unfold in the vibrant landscapes of Mexico, offering a unique gaming experience. Yet, according to insider sources, Activision executives executed a sharp pivot, transforming the project into a full-fledged sequel featuring the iconic global escapades synonymous with the franchise.

The accelerated development cycle, a mere 16 months for the campaign, placed significant strain on the shoulders of Sledgehammer Games’ developers. Allegedly working overtime, including nights and weekends, some team members expressed disappointment, especially after assurances that the intense conditions witnessed in the creation of Call of Duty: Vanguard would not recur.

Adding to the challenges, developers found themselves navigating a complex content approval process with Infinity Ward, the original Call of Duty developer and the visionary force behind the Modern Warfare sub-series. This reportedly led to inefficiencies and unwarranted alterations, causing further frustration within the development team.

While an Activision spokesperson vehemently denied the initial expansion plan, Sledgehammer studio head Aaron Halon provided insight, explaining that the perception of an expansion may have arisen due to Modern Warfare 3’s distinctive status as a “new type of direct sequel.” Halon asserted the team’s pride in spearheading Modern Warfare III, dispelling any contrary claims and emphasizing the game’s embodiment of their creative vision cultivated over years of hard work.

As the gaming community eagerly anticipates the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the behind-the-scenes challenges underscore the complexities of game development and the pressure faced by developers striving to deliver a seamless and engaging experience.
