Starbreeze Is Making A Dungeons & Dragons Game
Swedish game devs Starbreeze Entertainment, known for The Chronicles of Riddick adaptation and Payday games, will be the next company to make a Dungeons & Dragons title.
The company has announced Project Baxter, a new game based on the Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property owned by Wizards of the Coast. The game will be out in 2026 for all major platforms, and also have crossplay, alluding that it’ll be a multiplayer title. And yes, it’ll be using a live-service model. Here’s the press release:
“The game, with the internal codename Project Baxter, set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons will carry the signature Starbreeze game cornerstones of cooperative multiplayer, lifetime commitment through a Games as a Service-model, community engagement and a larger-than-life experience. Project Baxter will launch on all major platforms in 2026 and include cross-play. The game will be produced in Unreal Engine 5.”
And here are two pieces of concept art from the game. And no, the wizard isn’t called Baxter as far as I know. Maybe, who knows?
Well, a multiplayer PvP Dungeons & Dragons game (or PvE ala the Warhammer: Vermintide titles) may not be such a bad idea if pulled off well. If Starbreeze gave the same amount of love to Project Baxter as they did Payday 2 (not a typo; Payday 3’s launch wasn’t well-received), we may have a hit on our hands later in 2026.
